HYGGE?? What does the Danish word Hygge mean you may ask? It has been described by many in different ways .... “the art of creating intimacy”; “coziness of the soul”; “cocoa by candlelight” etc etc. You will know HYGGE when you feel it, but some of the key ingredients are togetherness, relaxation, presence, coziness, contentment and comfort. The true essence of HYGGE is the pursuit of everyday happiness and it’s basically like a hug, just without the physical touch. I believe the Danish are very good at it! #flowers Here at Eagle View Escape, as we sit and reflect on the year (2019) that was, a little personal exercise comes in handy. A pen. A blank piece of paper. When thinking of our ‘flowers’ for this year, we are hard pressed to go past the wave of care and concern that has come our way this past number of weeks from our followers, as the Blue Mountains region (and all around Australia) navigates a difficult bushfire season. We continue to give thanks and praise for the safety of our property, but remain sensitive to the fact that many of our neighbouring communities are suffering much. And as we reflect on the year that was, we know it is our love of hosting others that gets us out of bed each morning, our hosting of others is what makes all seem ‘normal’ here in our little slice of heaven on a hillside overlooking Lake Lyell, and thus we are extending this invitation – to host you - our followers – with a complimentary night when coming to stay with us in coming months. . But today we would like to stand in honour of 'giftings' of another kind. The gift of natural talent. In the past week many would be aware of the bushfires being experienced statewide, and in particular in our surrounding communities, and the widespread devastation left in its wake. Fallen firefighter Andrew Odwyer is foremost in our thoughts today - and we pause to pay tribute to his bravery, commitment, dedication ...... and 'giftings'. Andrew and his lovely wife Melissa have been guests of ours here at Eagle View Escape - but not only did they afford us the pleasure of hosting their stay - they left us with lifelong memories via Andrew's 'giftings' in photography. Andrew blessed us with a series of crystal ball photographs of our property throughout their stay - and we fell in love with them so much at the time (2016) that we framed a number of them and they hang gracefully in our front foyer. Today we stop and pause, and pay homage to Andrew and his family, and others like Andrew who have kept our community, and us here at Eagle View Escape safe this past number of weeks. Photography has a way of taking a small instant of time and holding it still. From ALL of us here at Eagle View Escape (our staff, our animals & wildlife included) - thank you for your calls & emails of concern. Over the years we have gathered such an extended Eagle View 'family',inclusive of all our guests - and it is in times like these where widespread bushfires are being experienced across the state, that the care and concern of 'family' come to the fore. Thank you for thinking of us. We are incredibly blessed here at Eagle View Escape and to date we remain safe from any harm. Our roadways are fully opened and useable. We have days where we wake to beautiful blue skies, and other days where we experience smoke haze from containment burning across the mountains - but in all days, have always been safe. We are incredibly grateful for the fire fighting efforts in the wider community ❤We continue to host guests who are comfortable with current weather conditions, in fact we have 11 lovely couples staying with us this evening - two of which are celebrating birthdays - one an anniversary - and one couple celebrating their honeymoon! Such an honour to host them all. So we are off to bed for the evening, but before retiring for the night we just wanted to put it out there that we are comforted by people's concern for us - and all is safe and well here ❤

Bushfire Update: Over the past few weeks, we have been fielding many calls from confirmed & prospective guests anticipating a visit to the mountains - but slightly reluctant to do so, due to the many and varied bushfire activities currently experienced throughout the state. We have family in Sydney who share with us daily their experiences of smoke filled skies, and on some days sprinkles of ash falling from the skies (!) so we fully understand and appreciate the apprehension this can give rise to. But our reality here at Eagle View Escape - perched on a mountain top overlooking the waters of Lake Lyell - is slightly different - and for this alone, we give thanks. Whilst we are fully aware and incredibly grateful for the firefighting efforts in varying locations - we are not personally located near any fire fronts, we are free of any smoke, but will just say, that due to current drought conditions, we do have the odd day where an afternoon breeze may bring with it a light sprinkle of dust - but that is to be expected with such dry conditions. It is with some slight apprehension that we even piece this post together - we certainly do not wish to detract in any way whatsoever from the news worthy stories being reported on regarding this horrendous bushfire season being experienced state wide - but we thank all those who have called with their concerns - your care is comforting. But let us just say ...... We, all our staff & property are safe ❤ We are open, and all roads leading to us are open ❤ We are blessed to be hosting guests this weekend and in coming weeks ❤ And we are grateful for their support at this time ❤ Our neighbouring townships & local business friends are also doing just fine - just another little something we pause and give thanks for ❤
